    The Elkhart Board of Public Works has been pushing for Ontwa Township to address the problems discovered after a late-2011 sewer collapse for nearly two-and-a-half years, and they are not any closer to being satisfied with the most recent plan. Michael Machlan, Elkhart Board of Works President, requested a denial of a wastewater treatment permit for Ontwa Township in a sternly-worded letter, where he claimed the township's management had shown "blatant disregard for environmental welfare."

  • Man convicted of 2004 Lakeville murder caught after escaping from his cell

    A man convicted of the 2004 homicide of his twin brother in Lakeville was caught by prison staff after he was reported missing from his cell. Philip Littler, 28, was apprehended by staff at the Pendleton State Correctional Facility after they reportedly found him on the roof of the administration building, just before 1:00am Wednesday morning. Officers located Littler after his cell was found empty during a routine security check.
