What to expect: You can expect a professionally timed 5K run and walk alongside members of the Indianapolis Fire Department and Police Department in their turnout gear. Runners and walkers of all abilities are invited to join in this unique event. The course starts and ends at Museum Lawn at White River State Park with the course going out and back on the Canal Walk. All participants receive a race t- shirt. About the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (“T2T”): The Foundation pays homage to Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who lost his life on September 11th, 2001. After driving his truck to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, only to find the passage was restricted to emergency vehicles, Stephen strapped 60 pounds of gear to his back and ran through the tunnel to the World Trade Center where he gave up his life while saving others. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation honor’s Stephen’s sacrifice and the sacrifice of our heroes by supporting the families of fallen first responders, wounded veterans, and homeless veterans. To date, Tunnel to Towers has delivered over 1,200 mortgage-free homes to our nation’s heroes and committed over $500 million across all of our programs. This year the Foundation is delivering over 200 mortgage-free smart homes to catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, Gold Star families, families of first responders who leave behind young children and more than 3,000 housing units to combat veteran homelessness. The Foundation has assisted 8 families in the state of Indiana with mortgage free homes.
